Attitude is one of the most important and Interesting topic in Social Psychology. It defines who we are and how we behave.  It has a very powerful influence on our behavior. We Behave according to our Attitude. In this article, We will discuss what is Attitude, Components and  Functions of Attitude how it is formed, and Change?


What is  Attitude?


 Attitude is a Psychological Construct that is defined as our feelings, belief, and Behavior toward a particular group, person, thing, and event. He acquires a different attitude by interacting with the environment and Experience. It has a very powerful influence on our behavior. But it could also be changed through persuasion.

Attitude could be favorable or unfavorable, positive and negative. For Example, you may have an attitude toward different political parties whether they are good or not. Attitude may be defined as your response to a specific event or idea.


Overview:


What is your opinion about Women March? Which political party is best to run a Country? Should students allow to participate in politics and Should prayer be allowed in school?

You may have a fairly strong opinions and beliefs about these simple questions. It means you have developed attitudes about these issues and these attitudes influence our behavior a lot. How we behave is based on our attitude.


Factor Influence in Attitude Formation:


Experience:


Our Attitudes forms directly as a result of experience. We form attitudes and opinions about something after experiencing these things.


Social Role and Norms:


Our society and culture also play an important role in forming our attitudes. Our attitude is also based on Society's rules and expectations of people.


Classical and Operant Conditioning:


According to Behaviorist psychologists, we learned attitude through operant and Classical Conditioning. For example, we learned from TV Commercials and advertisements.


Observing People in Environment:


We learned most of our Attitude by observing other people. We try act like your favorite personality.


Structure of Attitude:


ABCs model of Attitude:


Attitude can be Explain in terms of three Component. These Components are the Affective Component, Behavioral Component, and Cognitive Component.


Affective Component:


The affective component is based on what you feel about the objects.


Behavioral Component:


This component tells us how Attitude influences our behavior.


Cognitive Component:


The cognitive component is based on thought and belief about the subject.


How does a Psychologist define Attitude?


   According to a Psychologist, Attitude is a learned tendency to evaluate things in a certain way. It is the evaluation of a person, group idea, and School of thought. Attitude can be Positive or Negative but sometimes it could be Uncertain.


Types of Attitude:


There are two types of Attitude, Explicit and Implicit


Explicit Attitude:


Explicit Attitude Are those we are consciously aware of and that clearly Influence our Behavior and Belief.


Implicit Attitude:


Implicit Attitudes are those we are not consciously aware of but they still have an effect on our beliefs and behavior.


Behavior and Attitude:


Behavior may be Different in different situations but the attitude will be the same. Our Attitude determines our Behavior. The behavior of an Individual must be consistent with Attitude.
