Today, we heard the word Mental Health a lot on Televisions, Newspapers, and Social Media. Different people define it in different ways, an actress defines it in their own perspective, and Doctor describes it in their way while a politician has their own approach. Some People believe that mental illnesses is caused by evil spirits. Everyone has their own perspective But What Exactly Mental Health is?

Before Going to Define Mental health, first, we must understand the definition of health. According to World Health Organization;

     “Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of Disease or Infirmity” (WHO in 1948)

According to this definition, you may understand that health is a combination of both physical, mental, and social well-being. These all are important factors of health. If any factor is missing then you would not consider as a Healthy person. Mental Health is an important part of Health and you would not consider a Healthy person without mental health. That’s why it was the motto of WHO on the Mental Health Day 2020.

                       “There is no Health without Mental Health”

Now, what is Mental Health?

  “Mental Health is a state of Well-being in which an individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community” ( World Health Organization )


      World Health Organization stresses that mental is not the absence of mental Disorder but Mental Health is defined in terms to these factors.


  • Be familiar with his or her Qualities.
  • Cope with the Stresses of daily life.
  • Work productively and effectively.
  • Contribution to his community.

Mental Health is a state of psychological well-being Feeling down tense angry or anxious are all normal emotions but when these feelings persist for long periods of time or if they begin to interfere with Daily life They may become a mental health problem Mental health problems or mental illness are common in Australia with about 20% of the population experiencing mental health problems in any 12-month period There are a number of mental illnesses such as depression anxiety eating disorders bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.

Mental illness can occur at any age anxiety disorders and depression especially are quite common problems for young people Getting help early makes a significant difference to how quickly and how well someone recovers people and places that can help include general practitioners counsellors and Community Mental [Health] Services However three out of four people with a mental illness report that they have experienced stigma Stigma is a mark of disgrace that sets a person apart when a person is labeled by their mental illness They are seen as part of a stereotyped group stigma brings experiences and feelings of shame blame hopelessness distress and a reluctance to seek help.
