What is Motivation?

 

 



Motivation is an internal process that initiates, guides, and maintains goal-oriented behavior. Motivation is a behavior that aims to fulfill our need and desire For example:  if you are thirsty, you mind motivate you to drink water.
The force that activates our behavior is Biological, Emotional, Social and Cognitive. Motivation is a driving force behind human behavior. 
Motivation is not just a force behind human action but also directs and maintains goal-oriented behavior.
Some of the famous theories purposes by psychologists are the instinct drive and arousal theories of motivation, Maslow's hierarchy of basic needs is also one of the famous theories in psychology.

Types of Motivation:

Extrinsic Motivation:

The motivation that arises from outside the individual is called extrinsic motivation. This behavior is doing for reward and avoid punishment.

Intrinsic Motivation:

The motivation that arises from within the individual is called intrinsic behavior. e.g. Doing a complicated cross puzzle. This behavior usually for personal gratification. Hearing a piece of music is also an example of intrinsic motivation.

Some behavior contains both intrinsic or extrinsic motivation. For example: Writing a book in order to become famous and for personal gratification.

Uses:

Motivation is a guiding force for all human behavior.
Motivation improves our work performance
Help people to engage in healthy behavior and avoid maladaptive behavior such as addiction.
Improve well-being and Happiness.
We all have some need, desire, or goal. But the force that helps us to fulfill our need and achieve our goals is motivation. Achieving a goal is not that simple but we have to cross many obstacles.
